The Rebel County certainly knows its food, considering it has a culinary market that has been around for over 400 years, and that they’re proud owners of Ballymaloe House and Cookery School.

The talent for food is abundant and Cork City has plenty of great eateries, so we’ve drawn up a nifty list (in no particular order!) of the 15 best places to go for food when in Cork.

1. Café Paradiso

This vegetarian restaurant on Lancaster Quay is a haven for any foodie, they’re super inventive in their cooking and incorporate styles from all across the globe for their dishes. You’d be mental trying to get in here without a booking though, so always ring ahead.

2. Amicus

This swanky bar does everything from tapas to amazing charcuterie boards, hefty burgers and delicious wings. Come for the food, stay for the gorgeous decor and generous wine measures.

3. Jacobs On The Mall

Located right beside the English Market, this restaurant uses only the freshest produce in their dishes, and it shows in their top notch food!

4. Jacques Restaurant

These guys have been in business for 30 years, and they serve simple fresh Cork food, bursting with flavour, in a friendly relaxed atmosphere.

5. Market Lane

This bistro is always rammed which is an indication to how great their food is. Market Lane specialise in top quality meat, fish and game all locally-sourced in Cork.

6. Liberty Grill

You’ll taste some of Cork’s best burgers at Liberty Grill, where they do brilliant food in an informal setting. Not only is it an upmarket burger joint, but they also do a mean brunch. If you’re feeling brave try their wild boar burger!

7. Les Gourmandises

This award-winning French restaurant shows fine dining at its best – their presentation of food is out of this world. They import all their wine from France ensuring you will always find a fantastic bottle to suit your meal.

8. Farmgate Café

Located in the heart of the English Market, you can choose super fresh salads from their counter service or else sit yourself down and enjoy the delights of the à la carte menu in the airy atrium.

9. No. 5 Fenns Quay

This unassuming restaurant does whole, simplistic food just like your mammy’s cooking that offers amazing value, and huge portions.

10. The Weir Rooms

This restaurant is part of the River Lee Hotel, but well worth visiting even if you’re staying elsewhere. They pride themselves in only using farm to table produce, and have a gorgeous terrace for the summer months.

11. The Club Brasserie

Known as ‘The Club’ to locals, this relaxed brasserie is situated right on the boardwalk overlooking the River Lee. Far from stuffy, this place is all about good hearty food so expect plenty of pasta bakes, frittatas and their famous spiced potatoes!

12. Cornstore

Located smack bang in the heart of the city on Cornmarket Street, these guys specialise in seafood and steak so it’s the perfect place to bring someone you’re trying to impress. Make sure you try some of their awesome cocktails while you’re there too.

13. Nash 19

This restaurant, café and food hall is a bit of a Cork institution – whether you want to pop in for a scone as a treat when shopping, or have a lengthy dinner in the evenings it’s perfect for all occasions. If you’re there in the daytime you can even pick up some fresh bread or some of their famous granola to bring home.

14. E L E C T R I C

This art deco restaurant over looks the cathedral and the river, and serves up amazing seafood caught fresh each day so expect amazing oysters, crab claws and hearty fish stews. Once the eating’s done, this place transforms into a buzzing nightclub, so definitely stick around.

15. Aroi

This Asian Street Food restaurant in Carey’s Lane is well worth checking out. Aroi serves up seriously tasty food in a casual dining setting, without breaking the bank. It’s the perfect spot for a bit of after work grub before heading out for the night.
