Shared to the Atlantic Whale and Wildlife Tours Facebook page, they described the video as “magic”.

A video, captured by Sophie Lawlor, shows hundreds of dolphins splashing along the Irish coast. Spotted off Courtmacsherry last week, officials at Atlantic Whale and Wildlife Tours have described it as quite unusual.

Sharing the video to their Facebook page, it’s wowed onlookers who have been mesmerised by the animals gliding in and out of the water.

“Hundreds of common dolphins in a big hurry somewhere. Probably on the hunt. It’s unusual for common dolphins to completely ignore our boat. They usually begin bow riding. But these animals seem to have bigger fish to fry!

Thank you so much to @sophiealawlor for capturing this footage in Courtmacsherry bay last week and sharing it with us.”

In other exciting news, rare drone footage was also captured of a fin whale swimming off the coast of Cork. The second-largest mammal in the world, they can reach up to 65 feet and are the largest whale species to have been spotted in Irish waters. According to Ocean Research & Conservation Ireland (ORC Ireland), this is only the second time that this species of whale has been captured with aerial footage in Irish waters.
