The hotel is up against stiff competition from Italy, France, Spain and Malta.
While a lot of folk around Ireland (and the world, no doubt) have put their wedding plans on hold for now, there is still always some room to dream about the eventual honeymoon.
Even those of us who are still painfully single (don't cry don't cry don't cry...) think about how awesome honeymoons must be; the lush extravagance of it all, two weeks or however long away from normal life. Sounds pretty fantastic, especially right now.
The folks at the World Travel Awards are aware of how singular honeymoon experiences can be, and have dedicated an entire category to Europe's Leading Honeymoon Resort, and the 2020 nominations are in.
Before we get to the Irish nomination, we need to catch you up on some information: the JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa in Italy has won this award in 2018, and again in 2019, and is nominated again this year. What makes them so great, you might be wondering? Well, the hotel is set on its own private island, for one...
There is also some tough competition from the rest of the Best Honeymoon nominees, including the Belmond Hotel Splendido in Italy, the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in France, the Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz in Malta, the Royal Hideaway Corales Resort in Spain, and the Villa D'este in Italy.
But enough about them, let us move on to the Irish nomination!
The Ashford Castle in Mayo has also been nominated for Best Honeymoon Resort in Europe in 2018 and 2019, so could this be third time a charm? Let us hope so! The winners of the nominations will be revealed this November, and we'll be sure to keep you updated if Ireland manages to take home the gold.

At Ashford Castle, we continue to light our exterior up in the colours of the Irish flag for an hour nightly. A tribute to our country's resilience, we use this display to pay thanks to the doctors and hospital staff dealing with these unprecedented times. Go raibh maith agat!
