Huge news for Bray, Bré.

It’s looking likely that Bray locals will be able to avail of their own Penneys, as the bargain retailer is pegged to be setting up shop at the recently-opened Bray Central Shopping Centre.

Although not officially confirmed, it is believed Penneys will open in Bray late this year or in early 2024, Bray People reports.

The long-awaited Bray Central Shopping Centre opened just off Bray Main Street in November of last year, with a number of restaurants already open for business including Elephant and Castle and Wowburger. A five-screen, luxury cinema from Stella and bowling alley are expected to be added soon, with Sports Direct also set to open by the end of this year.

Speaking to Bray People, Cathaoirleach of the Bray Municipal District and Green Party Councillor Erika Doyle said the potential additions would be a huge positive for the town.

“While any announcement will have to come from the brands themselves, obviously this move would be welcomed by the people of Bray, both in terms of retail offering and local employment,” she said.

“I spoke with the developers just before Christmas and they were confident that lettings would be strong this year… Bray Central has been finished to a very high standard and I’m looking forward to watching it evolve and grow in the coming year.”

As it stands, Penneys have neither confirmed nor denied the potential new store, but a spokesperson said:

“We continually review opportunities for expansion of the Penneys business however, as you’d expect, we don’t comment on speculation about where or when we might open our next stores”.

Will we be seeing Micheál Martin and a troupe of enthusiastic dancers out in Bray soon, a la the infamous Penneys Tallaght opening? It’s all to play for.
