Who's up for a trip to Cork this festive season?
According to the Irish Examiner, plans for Ireland's first floating hotel have been given the green light. The 'boatel' project could be open on Cork's River Lee by Christmas.
Dublin-based Sick and Sore Ltd are manning the project which should see them gain a grant of planning for a period of three years only, after which they will have to reapply for retention.
Sam Corbett, who is charge of the venture said:
“I would hope that over the coming years, we will see more floating attractions on the River Lee.
"It’s not just about floating hotels, bars, and restaurants.
“We have converted a 1916-built barge into an escape room experience based in Dublin’s Grand Canal Dock, and alongside us, we have a floating Thai massage business and a barge cruise business.
“The same could be done in Cork — the river has great potential.”
A deal has also been signed with tour operator Paddywagon Tours, which will include the ‘boatel’ as one of its stops on its round-Ireland tours.
We don't know about you but we can't wait to see how this turns out.
