Aniar will remain closed this season, choosing to focus on offering online cooking classes for the remainder of the summer instead.
A terroir-based restaurant in Galway, Aniar has held a Michelin star for eight years. Run by local restauranteur JP McMahon, it’s known for its ever-changing menu inspired by the west of Ireland.
Having closed for the winter season back in January, the team was planning to reopen to the public in early April – plans that were put on hold once again after lockdown was enforced. Facing great uncertainty for several months, it was all up in the air as to whether Aniar would reopen for the summer season however owner JP has made the decision to remain closed.
Announcing the news on Twitter, he wrote:
“It is with great sadness that we announce @aniargalway will not open this season. We’re going to focus instead on online cooking classes for the remainder of the summer and then do our usual cooking classes in the winter. Hopefully, see you April 2021 for a better season.”

While the restaurant itself will remain closed for the summer, the team will still be running their online cooking classes in the hopes of remaining connected with customers. Tailored to each individual/group, classes last three hours long and act as a comprehensive guide that will help you master five to six different dishes.
