This follows a decision from organisers to push the festival’s usual summer plans until later in the year.

A highlight on the Galway events calendar, people flock from far and wide for the Galway International Arts Festival (GIAF) each year. However, with Covid-19 restrictions around large public gatherings still in place, organisers made the decision to postpone the usual summer schedule of events.

Thankfully it’s not all bad news though as officials have since confirmed that a special autumn programme of events is in the works – promising more info on what’s in store very soon.

A statement posted to the official GIAF website reads:

“Right about now, we’d ordinarily see our July Festival kicking into high gear.

Due to the Covid-19 crisis, the July 2020 Festival could not go ahead as planned but a special programme of events will take place this autumn (details coming soon).”

Going on to detail what would usually be happening if this were a ‘normal’ July, the team added that it’s the public that really make the festival what it is.

“This year, it’s a different kind of July. But the good news is that in a few short weeks we’ll be announcing full details of an autumn programme of events.”

“We know there are challenges ahead. We know we will have to rethink how we do things. One thing’s for sure, we look forward to safely gathering again to celebrate great art with you all.”
