An Irish Woman Is To Be Reunited With Her Husband After He Was Wrongly Deported

Sarah

A Galway woman whose Brazilian husband was wrongfully deported in July due to claims of a ‘sham marriage’ will be reunited with him before Christmas.

Harriet Bruce took to Facebook to share the exciting news that her husband Kleber will be returning home, saying that “this has been a very challenging few months but I gave it my all and eventually we got the justice we both deserve”.

Kleber Medeiros came to Ballinasloe in 2012 and began seeing Harriet a year later. They had set a wedding date for December 2015 but just three weeks before the wedding date, and with many family members already due to fly in for the celebrations, they received devastating news from the HSE.

An anonymous member of the public had objected to their marriage and the couple received notice from the HSE saying that there would need to be an investigation before they could be granted a marriage license.

The couple decided to go ahead with the religious ceremony and provided the HSE with documents that proved they had been living together.

It took the HSE almost one year to come to a decision that their marriage was valid but in the meantime, Kleber was deported and the couple’s married life put on hold.

After a long campaign, they have now received an early Christmas present with the news that they will be reunited very soon.
