Live theatre will make its grand return to the Galway this September with a production of The Playboy of the Western World – The Musical.
Every time I pass the Bord Gáis these days, I sigh. You know why? Because I miss the theatre. The thrill of going to a live show is something matched only by the buzz of seeing your favourite artist/band perform and it’s one of those things that you don’t realise just how much you’ll miss until it’s gone.
Having spent most of my college years in Galway, theatre and the arts is something that I’ve grown used to having at my fingertips and as the cultural capital of Ireland (not to mention the European capital of culture this year), the place is known for its theatrical offerings.
With most events having been cancelled over the last few months, Galwegians are practically gasping for entertainment but thankfully, there’s light at the end of the tunnel as live theatre will make its grand return to the wesht this September. The first live theatre performance since March, the stage will come alive with a production of The Playboy of the Western World – The Musical.
Part of the Galway Summer Garden calendar of events, the show will welcome 180 guests into the audience – each seated in their own little socially distanced unit with family/friends. Described as a “raucous and rollicking production”, the play is set in a 1950s radio studio and is a contemporary reimagining of a classic Irish play.
Running for three days from September 15th to 17th inclusive, tickets cost €25 and you can get yours here.
