New outdoor seating ‘a fantastic development’ for busy Galway street

Galway is getting an upgrade in the form of additional outdoor seating – news that has been very welcomed by local business owners who have been asking for more space since reopening their doors for dine-in service in recent weeks.

Like many other towns across Ireland and the wider world, Galway is looking to outdoor seating as a way to accommodate proper social distancing. Business owners have made renewed calls for additional space to be provided since reopening at the end of last month and it seems that the powers that be are listening and are working on a “new look” for the busy Lower Dominick Street.

A video – shared online by Enda Cunningham – shows authorities working on lower Dominick Street where parking spaces are being replaced with planter boxes and space for additional outdoor seating.

According to one local man, it’s “a fantastic development for the city”. Others have also praised the initiative, commending Galway City Council for their “forward-thinking”. Commenting on the project, Councillor Eddie Hoare said:

“Good to see progress being made. Hopefully we will see more city centre locations included in the coming weeks. Let’s get the buy in from all first and then we will work on a proper canopy!!!”
