A photo of the Middle Arch area in Galway has outraged locals who have made renewed pleas for people to leave no trace and dispose of their rubbish properly.
People in Galway city are up in arms at the moment over on ongoing litter issue around the Spanish Arch area. Particularly bad following a bout of good weather, a photo posted online highlights the extent of the problem. Showing Middle Arch completely covered in rubbish, people have made renewed pleas for those using the area to leave no trace.
Before and after photos, both captured by local photographer Peter Skelton, show the same spot hours apart.

Describing the situation as "upsetting and disheartening to see" especially considering much of the debris ends up in the River Corrib, locals have commended the council for their continued efforts to keeping the area clean and litter free.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time that the area has been left covered in rubbish with many saying they have become accustomed to such a sight - particularly following a spell of good weather as crowds gather along the water to enjoy the sunshine.
