The Blue Note pub in ‘the beating heart of Galway’s best end’ reopens this week

Sarah Finnan

A staple down in the West End, or Galway’s best end as they call it, The Blue Note will reopen just ahead of the weekend.

Part of the Galway social scene since 1994, the Blue Note has seen a generation of Galway’s most creative and passionate DJ’s, dancers, musicians, poets, ravers and rogues pass through its Golden Gates over the years. Closed since mid-March and the onset of lockdown, it’s been a long few months for both staff and patrons alike.

Announcing that they have teamed up with the good folk at Pizza Povigo, they’ll be back serving up good pints, good food and good craic as of this Friday. The menu includes three different pizza options along with two salads – all cleverly named, all a tenner and all equally delicious no doubt.

‘Howya Pals. We back open this Friday at 5pm. There will be Pint’s that you must order with delicious pizzas or salads. There is no dancing but there will still be the best music. There will be a bit of getting used to the new craic but we will find it.’

Saying that they ‘cannot wait’ to welcome old friends back inside their hallowed halls, owner Malachy added that the place is looking amazing… hinting at a new special surprise out in the beer garden. Oh, the intrigue…

According to Malachy, bookings for Friday and Saturday are full but half the tables have been set aside for walk-ins so you could still manage to nab a seat if you call down. Open Friday to Sunday, 5pm to 11pm with last kitchen orders at 10pm.
