Galway is magic at any time of the year but especially in the run-up to December 25th when the city comes alive with Christmas cheer. An annual occurrence, the yearly Galway Christmas Market is a huge hit with both locals and tourists alike who flock to Eyre Square to take in the merriment.
Confirming that a number of plans are being drawn up to ensure that this year’s market can take place as usual, Maria Moynihan Lee – the woman behind the event – vowed that a ‘Covid-friendly’ market will go ahead.
Speaking to the Connacht Tribune, she revealed that planning has actually been underway since early April.
“What we’re doing is very detailed planning and working with the Council on making the market happen. It will be the same market in the way people know it to be and it will meet all expectations, but there will be a huge level of control.”
Adding that clear communication will be key in pulling things off smoothly, she said that the goal is to offer visitors that same magical experience they’ve come to associate with the Galway Christmas Market just in a slightly different way.
“What we are focused on is not diminishing the offering but, rather, altering the way you access that offering. It’s about the quality of the experience not being diminished, while also ensuring the health and safety of people.”
