Six Irish Towns To Escape To For A Last-Minute Sunshine Filled Trip This Weekend

Sarah

The sun is here to stay but the weekends come and go far too quickly. Make the most of it and hightail it somewhere in the country for a last min Costa del Irlanda escape.

We can almost smell the seafood from our desks… Here’s some suggestions of getaway destinations that will make you feel like you’ve been on a hollier all summer.

1. Wexford Town

Wexford is famous for two things: beaches and strawberries. Two of our favourite things…

Go for a dip in the evening sun at Rosslare or Curracloe beaches before heading back to White’s Hotel for a great night’s sleep.

Or else, shtall into Simon’s Pub and Brewery for some divine craft beer – it’ll be hoppin’.

2. Kinsale, Cork

Life’s worries will instantly disappear once you arrive to this cute harbour town.

It’s been hailed ‘The Gourmet Capital of Ireland’ for a good reason, you’ll find delish seafood restaurants. Culture vultures will love the artsy vibe too, which can be felt all over the town, right down to the brightly coloured buildings.

3. Tullamore, Offaly

Stay smack bang in the centre of a town that’s great for pubs, great for whiskey and great for access – both the Galway and Westport trains serve Tullamore station, and it’s just over an hour from Heuston.

What more could you ask for?

4. Clifden, Galway

After driving through the gorgeous scenery to get here, you’ll be ready for pints and luckily there’s a main street full of amazing bars to fulfil that dream.

Dog’s Bay beach, aka one of Ireland’s best, is mere minutes away.

5. Killarney, Kerry

Killarney is just one of those places that everyone should visit at least once in their lives.

The town itself is lively, the people are friendly and the atmosphere is A1. From Ross Castle and Mucross House to the rest of the vast Killarney National Park, it’s all breathtakingly beautiful.

If you’re feelin’ fancy book the family into The Europe Hotel for the weekend.

6. Portrush, Antrim

You’ll have to cross the border into Northern Ireland, but fear not. Because when you do get here you could be surfing, eating amazing food, playing golf or more importantly drinking pints and hitting the nightclubs.

Right… Who’s leaving work early on Friday?!
