Hen party invades cattle mart in County Leitrim

Hen party cattle mart

They never saw the willy straws coming.

If you’re a bridesmaid in the throes of wedding season, it can be hard to think of an activity that’s unique, exciting, and makes the bride feel special. There are only so many boat trips or cocktail-making classes one can attend.

Still though, I don’t think anyone on maid-of-honour duties would have come up with an itinerary including a trip to the local cattle mart.

On a typical Saturday Carrigallen Mart is bustling with an array of heifers, bulls and calves passing through, but hens don’t usually take the auction floor.

However, this weekend while auctioneer Micheál Reilly took bids the hen party gathered around him, fully decked out in willy-wielding headbands and veils.

Carrigallen Mart shared a video of the hen on Facebook with the caption: “Nothing distracts a good auctioneer, best wishes to Anne & her crazy hen party”.

Unfazed, Micheál carried on with his bids – “the ultimate professional” as one viewer said in the Facebook comments.

The video has also been shared on Twitter by farmer Ollie Kiernan, with one eagle-eyed viewer pausing on an onlooker who appeared less than impressed with the whole affair:

The perfect activity to get you pumped for a night of prosecco and playing Mr and Mrs, really.
