7 Incredible Road Trips You Should Take In Munster This Summer

Road trips are the best kind of summer adventures, hitting the open road with your best pals, finding out who the ‘mom’ friend is, and not getting any sleep because Emily snores louder than an elephant with a cold, it’s the ideal package for a great trip.

Here are seven incredible road trips to take in Munster.

1. Southern Peninsula Touring Route, Dingle

This 1-day trip is broken down into 4 stages, starting in Castlemaine and finishing in Dingle. This route takes you through the charming villages on the Dingle Peninsula.

With this trip you get to explore the sandy beaches and the ancient monuments in County Kerry, you also get a chance to visit the Blasket Visitor Centre where you’ll learn all about the Islanders rich literary and cultural heritage, you can catch a ferry journey across and explore the deserted houses there and see what life was like for the old farming and fishing community.

2. Southern Peninsula Touring Route – 5 Day

This 5-day trip starts in Kerry and works its way down into Cork, its split into stages, each day has 2 stages which the exception of the first day as it has 3. 

This route is filled with fun activities such as visiting the Dingle Cookery School, which teaches you how to make tasty pork sausages and traditional brown soda bread. You can also go bird watching or look out for whales and dolphins before passing the village of Annascaul which is home to the South Pole Inn, a pub once owned by the famous Antarctic explorer Tom Creann.

3. Southern Peninsula Touring Route – 3 Day 

This 3-day trip starts in Blennerville and finishes in Catherdaniel. Here you’ll be immersed in ancient culture with traditional music, ancestral story telling and the Irish language.

This trip includes visits to many historic landmarks like the stunning Blennerville Windmill and Cahersiveen Old Barracks as well as natural wonders like Inch Beach, the Conor Pass and Tralee Bay.

4. Garden & Heritage Tour of West Cork

This is a 4-day road trip that explores the scenic area of Skibbereen in West Cork. Each day has a different tour which allows you to explore and learn about the heritage of West Cork. Some of these gardens include the Inish Beg Gardens, the Glebe Gardens, the Lissard Garden and the Drishane House and Garden, these picturesque places are perfect to get beautiful photos for social media photos.

5. Ring of Kerry

The Ring of Kerry is a very diverse trip and its perfect for those who are looking for a bit of everything on their trip. It has a combination of oceans, islands, museums, mountains and towns, the route starts and finishes in Killarney. There are many attractions along the route such as the Kerry Bog Village Museum, the Kells Bay Gardens and Derrynane House, which is the ancestral home of a historic statesman Daniel O’Connell.

6. Haven Coast Driving Route

The Haven Coast Driving Route starts in Baltimore and finishes in Kinsale. The drive takes roughly 3 hours to do and it has many beautiful stops along the way, such as Timogleague Abbey and Garreylucas are perfect for a stroll to stretch your legs.

7. Haven Coast Touring Route – 5 Day

The Haven Coast Touring Route is a 5-day trip that starts in Kinsale and finishes in Ballydehob and takes you along the gorgeous Cork coast stopping along through historical sites such as Charles Fort and Timoleague Abbey.
