This Foodie Day In Kerry Is A Unique Experience All Food Lovers Should Try

Sarah

Fresh ocean air, locally sourced ingredients and healthy, tasty recipes is the foolproof formula to our hearts.

So when we heard that you can embark on a ‘Seaweed identification and Foraging Workshop’ along the Wild Atlantic Way in South Kerry, we were in love with the idea.

The best part? It’s followed by a 10 course tasting lunch of your bounty.

The workshop begins with a slideshow and display of the various “sea vegetables” that thrive on the pristine coastline.

You then venture to the sea for a Low tide Foreshore discovery walk, (enjoying the absolutely stunning scenery of the Atlantic Ocean), where you learn how to find, identify and sustainably hand-harvest the nutritious green delight that is seaweed.

On return to base, you will enjoy a delicious 10 course tasting lunch made with various seaweeds, and a complimentary glass of Elderflower with Sugar Kelp Champagne.

Your guides for the day, John and Kerryann AKA seaweed superheroes, will tell you all about how seaweeds are low in fat and high in fibre.

Packed with Vitamins, Minerals and Trace Elements and rich in Antioxidants, Omega Oils and Plant Sterols, you’ll quickly understand how seaweed has earned its ‘superfood’ status.

A demonstration follows showing how to dry, store and cook with Seaweeds.

As if that isn’t already enough of an amazing day, you’ll also learn how to make some natural skin and hair care products and enjoy your first Seaweed Smoothie. Mmm.

The excellent course is five hours long, so you get a full day of foodie foraging and treats.

New ingredients to cook with, fun recipes and beauty products, this basically sounds like our ideal day. More info can be found here.
