This Businessman Wants To Bring The Ryder Cup Back To Ireland

James Fenton

Earlier today, we brought you the news that businessman JP McManus had announced a major overhaul of his Adare Manor Hotel and it appears that’s just the start of his ambitions.

The Limerick horse-racing tycoon wants the adjoining golf course to play host to the 2026 Ryder Cup which would pit Europe’s best pro golfers against their American counterparts on Irish soil for the first time since 2006.

According to Independent.ie, McManus said:

“The Ryder cup is a very very big ask, and like every other golf club in Ireland, we’d be delighted to host the Ryder Cup, but it’s one of (my) long term dreams.

“The soonest possible time (to host it) would be 2026, if you’re ever going to get it. But, there’s an awful lot of tough competition from within Europe and Britain, and I’m sure, from the rest of Ireland.”

Shane Lowry sinking the winning putt for Europe down on Irish soil? We’d love to see it.
