This Historic Irish Monument Was Defaced Last Night

James Fenton

Gardaí are set to examine video surveillance after the Treaty Stone in Limerick was defaced last night.

The stone marks the place where the Treaty of Limerick was signed in 1691, ending the Williamite War in Ireland between the Jacobites, supporters of Catholic King James II and supporters of Dutch Protestant priest William of Orange.

Limerick radio station Live95FM headed down to the site to check out the damage this morning and were met by the sight of blue paint strewn all over the historic stone.

If you have an information about the incident, Gardaí at Henry Street are investigating and can be contacted at 061-212400.
