Run by Aisling and Jonathon, Butler & Byrne is a popular little café down in Cong, Co. Mayo. Facing increasing uncertainty and financial strain over the past couple of months, owners have been struggling to get by. Making the tough decision to close their doors for good, yesterday marked their final day in business.
Making the announcement on social media, a message from the team reads:
“It’s with a heavy heart that we have made the decision to close our lovely business. This has been a very difficult decision for us as a family business, but due to the current climate and faced with an uncertain future we feel that this is the right decision for our family.
We would like to thank all our fabulous customers for their continuous support over the past 7 years in Cong. We will be forever grateful and not to forget the great friends we have made along the way.
This is obviously a difficult situation but I am a positive person and try to look at all situations positively. I have been lucky enough to have lived in some lovely places such as Dublin, Chicago, Boston, Toyko, Tipperary and I often look back with great fondness at chapters in my life. Cong will be added to that book of my life and I will look back at that chapter with great happiness on the memories we have made there over the last 7 years.”
Regulars have been saddened by the news, commiserating with owners for having to make such a difficult decision and adding that their closure will be “a big loss to the village”.
