PICS: Several People Evacuated From Their Homes As Two New Sinkholes Appear

Kiara Keane

The sinkhole appearance in Monaghan has taken an even more dramatic turn as several people have now been forced to evacuate their homes.

The hole appeared in the grounds of Magheracloone GAA club last week following the collapse of the nearby gypsum mine, though thankfully no one was on the grounds at the time.

Two more sinkholes have now appeared in the area, causing serious concern to locals as three homes within the exclusion zone were evacuated.

Experts are now assessing the damage of those homes along with two more nearby before the owners can return, with the exclusion zone expected to stay in place for another two days.

The chairman of the GAA club told RTÉ’s Morning Ireland that the club and community centre could be closed for a number of years for repairs.
