Heading off to the home of the tribes over staycation season?
Who'd blame you. From the hustle and bustle of Shop Street to the buzz of sitting outside on a sunny day in the Latin Quarter, there's so much to love about Galway, and that's before we even touch on the sacred ritual of the late night visit to Supermacs. No trip is complete without it.
But before your snackbox feast, you might like to pay a visit to one or two of the iconic pubs Galway is home to. With the help of our Lovin.ie Insta following, we've compiled a list of 8 great boozers to hit up during your stay in the city. Hup!
The Quays, Quay Street
Live music and tasty pints seven days a week in this spot in the heart of Galway City, perfect for sitting outside and watching the world go by if the weather allows.
The Skeff Bar, Eyre Square
Dubbed Galway's official meeting spot, and one of the first places you'll hit if you've gotten the bus or train into the city. Live music, quiz nights and delicious cocktails, all waiting for you inside this Eyre Square haunt.
Tigh Neachtain, Cross Street Upper
Some of Ireland's best trad musicians have played in Tigh Neachtain, including Sharon Shannon, Brendan O’Regan, Deirbhile Ni Bhrolchain, Kevin Hough, Breda Smyth and Brian Lennon. A hub for live music and culture, with home brewed beers and a menu full of locally sourced produce to accompany.
Taaffes Bar, Shop Street
Another great spot for a bitta trad, with daily sessions at 5:30pm and 9:30pm. And whether you're looking for a full Irish, a club sambo or a hearty stew, the Taaffes menu has you covered.
The Salt House, Raven Terrace
A Galway Bar Brewery production, and a great spot to hit up for the craft beer lovers. Plenty of unique and exciting ales and lagers coming through their rotating taps, and the obligatory bitta trad music to enjoy while you sip away.
An Pucan, Forster Street
One of the finest beer gardens we ever did see, with gin trees, an impressive selection of whiskey and creamy pints all waiting for you inside.
Front Door, Cross Street Upper
A buzzy late bar where you'll find either a DJ or live music seven nights a week. Also home to the award winning Sonny Molloy’s Whiskey Bar and cosy gin bar, Tigh Nora, which has its very own brand of gin.
Tig Choili, Latin Quarter
Another serious spot for trad music in the heart of the Latin Quarter, with its own specially brewed IPA and two sessions a day, seven days a week.
