Does anyone even remember a time before brunch? A time when every single weekend wasn’t spent gorging on pancakes and choosing between three different types of eggs benedict?
We sure don’t, and we don’t want to go back to that gloomy brunchless time either.
It may have first picked up speed in Dublin, but the brunch trend has caught on nationwide, with plenty of places offering ‘not quite brekkie not quite lunch’ treats all over the country.
Here’s some of our favourite brunch spots across Ireland that have been there for us when we needed a midday feed most:
1. BiteClub, Galway
The mega-popular Electric nightclub turns into a food haven with its infamous Disco Brunches and a street-food inspired boozy brunch menu. Our fave.
2. Grey Lane’s Bistro, Kerry
This adorable family-run cafe is a must-go when you’re in Dingle. Top dishes include their apple and cinnamon pancakes, and french toast with brie.
3. The Lemon Tree Cafe, Waterford
Perfectly located with a view of the Hook peninsula, this local place serves a royale upgrade: on Waterford blaa. Try it with smoked salmon, cream cheese, spinach & poached free range eggs.
4. San Lorenzos, Dublin
This New York style joint is a mecca for brunch lovers in Dublin city – they do everything from steak and duck fat fries to eggs with caviar and a coco pop french toast. Amazing.
5. Red Earth, Westmeath
This cosy Mullingar restaurant does a yummy Sunday brunch – with choices including a cheesy bruschetta, huuuge full Irish or their ‘country omelette’.
6. Established Coffee, Belfast
Established Coffee is a super slick coffee house that does food to die for. Think slow cooked pork with a sesame seed egg, and the most amazing waffle creations ever, like a dark chocolate and cardamom waffle with blood orange and pomegranate marmalade cream cheese.
7. The Buttery, Limerick
Opened by a brother and sister to ‘jazz up Limerick’s food scene’, The Buttery is fantastic. They serve buttermilk pancakes, a healthy version of a fry-up, and of course – a full on Irish fry too.
8. Zest, Kildare
This small, local spot in Clane is has some great options for Sunday brunch. We love their freshly baked bagel topped with cream cheese, capers and smoked salmon or their unique mixed grill with venison sausage, eggs hollandaise, and fries.
9. Liberty Grill, CorkÂ
The perfect place for a catch up in Cork city, Liberty Grill serves brunch until 5pm <3. Standout dishes such as their cinnamon toast and local fave, black pudding hollandaise. Just eat it.
10. Cafe Rua, Mayo
You’ll have to come for brunch early at this Castlebar delight, but its worth it. They do a delish chorizo dish with sauteed potatoes and a fried egg, and a sausage roll to beat all sausage rolls.
11. Dockyard No.8, Wicklow
The best part about this rustic brunch spot in Bray is that they do brunch seven days a week! Come here for steak and eggs, a breakfast salad (bacon, poached egg, rocket and more) or a ham hock eggs benny.
12. Blas Cafe, Donegal
A very cute family run place just outside of Donegal town, Blas does an amazing Sunday brunch. There’s pancakes with bacon and fruit, a sold fry-up, and the best burgers in Donegal. Sorted.
13. Cafe La Coco, Kilkenny
In the centre of Kilkenny, Cafe La Coco is a bright and airy space that does delicious pancake with fresh berries or bacon and maple, and tasty smashed avocado on toast. The dream.
14. Knox, Sligo
A firm fave with students in the town, Knox is a really hip eatery that’s a must for weekend brunch. Get the Sligo breakfast bap, or their amaaazing crab cakes with poached egg, asparagus, and siracha hollandaise.
15. Eastern Seaboard, Louth
This local foodie haven should be on everyone’s brunch bucket list. French toast with cinnamon and bacon crisps, smoked salmon benedict (on a buttermilk biscuit) and a sausage croquette in its full Irish are just some of the treats on offer.Â
