This is officially the finest roast you can get in Ireland

James Fenton

The winner of the best pub roast in Ireland has been revealed and to sample it, you’ll have to hit the road to Galway.

Griffin’s Bar in Clifden is celebrating today after coming out on top at Knorr Professional Ireland’s Great Roast 2019 competition. The annual event is considered one of the top culinary competitions in the country and this year also saw the Limerick Strand Hotel win the award for best hotel roast.

Well-known for its live entertainment and excellent pint, this latest news gives us another reason to visit Griffin’s at some point in the near future. The oldest continuously family-owned pub in Clifden, it just shows that sticking with tradition pays off in a world where chain bars and fancy eateries are popping up every week.

Other winners at this year’s awards include the Beaumont House in Dublin who took home the Leinster pub prize, the Killyhevlin House Hotel in Fermanagh, who won for Ulster hotel roast and Kirby’s Brogue Inn in Tralee who got the best pub roast in Munster.
