This ‘wisteria house’ in Kilkenny is visited by admirers from all over Ireland

We have it on good authority (the editors mam) that it’s wisteria season at the moment, so no better time to visit.

If your formative years were spent devouring the dramatic comings and goings of Bree, Lynette and the other Desperate Housewives, you may have spent a long time believing wisteria was nothing more than a fictional suburb. Just me? Okay, no worries. I’ll let myself out.

… But just in case there’s anyone who doesn’t know, wisteria is a climbing shrub that blooms in May and June with impressive, sweet smelling blue and purple flowers, also known as “blue rain” because of the way they cascade off the branches.

For reference:

You might have noticed wisteria blooming over the past few weeks in the gardens of those patient enough to grow and maintain it, but if you’re looking for a seriously impressive, fairytale-like display, get yourself to Inistioge in Kilkenny – home of one of Ireland’s most photographed cottages.

The picturesque village of Inistioge is a 25 minute drive south of Kilkenny City, located on the River Nore. A beautiful place to be on a sunny day as it is, but “Wisteria House” truly is the sweetly-scented icing on the cake.

Will you be paying it a visit this wisteria season?
