TV3, just yesterday, announced that it would be launching its new ‘three channel’ strategy shortly, including replacing UTV Ireland with a brand new channel called Be3.
The new channel, set to be ‘female focused’ and ‘female orientated’ will house “drama and chat” programming, as well as repeats of the channel’s line-up of soaps. Children’s programming blocks will also move to the channel.
This caused quite a stir in the Twitter world, causing women and men alike to question why on Earth such a thing would be suggested in 2016.
UTV Ireland relaunched ‘female orientated” Be3, focusing on soaps and children’s progs! No current affairs for us! https://t.co/mx9f4ejr7L

Be3…a station for women….because women don’t do politics and sport. They just like chat and shoes. Isn’t equality great?

So. A ‘female and family oriented’ station @official_Be3 ? ???? (a) men have families too; (b) not all women have kids; (c) it’s patronising.

I’m setting up a female version of my twitter account, where I’ll be tweeting girly stuff. Serious topics will remain on this account. #Be3

They called TV3 “grown-up TV” and Be3 “female interest”. This won’t end well…
