It will air three years after the iconic series ended in 2019
HBO Max is absolutely spoiling us today. First we get an update on the Sex and the City reboot And Just Like That, and now a teaser trailer for the prequel to Game of Thrones. Set to air in 2022, House of the Dragon follows the Targaryen family 200 years before Daenerys became the Mother of Dragons. So sadly, there’ll be no Emilia Clarke or Khalessi, but instead a look into the family she came from.

The series stars Matt Smith (The Crown, Doctor Who), Emma D’Arcy (Truth Seekers), Olivia Cooke (Bates Motel), and Patrick Considine (Peaky Blinders). It deals with the civil war that occurred during the Targaryen rule, and is based on the George R. R. Martin book Fire and Blood.
Game of Thrones fans said goodbye to the series in 2019 after the (lacklustre, in my opinion at least) series finale. However, no matter your feelings on how the original series left things, this is a fresh start, and it looks amazing so far. We’re willing to risk our hearts and dive back into the magic of dragons with the prequel series. Plus, how is it possible Matt Smith looks that good with the blonde hair?
House of the Dragon airs in 2022.
