Amazon Prime are turning this iconic ’90s movie into a new horror show

Rory Cashin

“What are you waiting for?!?!”

Released in 1997 after movies like Scream made teen slashers popular again, I Know What You Did Last Summer had maybe the most 1990’s cast of all time: Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jnr., Ryan Phillippe, and Johnny Galecki.

Dealing with a group of teens who believe they are being hunted by someone they accidentally ran over and left for a dead the summer previously, it was a huge box office success and went on to spawn two sequels with even longer titles: I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (where the killer follows the survivors of the first movie and their friends on their holiday in the Bahamas), and I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer (which has absolutely nothing to do with the first two movies, really).

Much like the killer themselves, this isn’t a franchise that knows how to stay dead, and will be getting the reboot treatment as a show on Prime Video.

Not much is known about the project right now, aside from the fact that it will honour the plot of the original book that the first movie was based on, and that Sara Goodman (Preacher, Gossip Girl) will be the lead writer on the series.

Albert Cheng, the COO and Co-Head of Television at Amazon Studios, had the following to say about the announcement: “The best horror franchises always have another scare coming, and this I Know What You Did Last Summer series from Sara Goodman is a perfectly twisted update to the iconic slasher movie. Any way you slice it, our global Prime Video customers will love this modern take on the fan favourite film.”

We already can’t wait to see what the killer hook guy gets up to this time. Now, scream it with us!
