An Irish café's bold interpretation of 'beans on toast' has inspired the nation

Beans on toast - the humble, zero fuss, go-to dish of a bleary-eyed Sunday morning. Melt some cheese on top if you're feeling lavish, substitute the toast for some waffles if you feel the urge - subtle variations on a classic.

Well now, an Irish café, has taken beans on toast to the next level. We present to you...

Beans IN toast.

A stroke of genius? A misunderstanding? It doesn't matter. Our Sundays are forever changed.

The lucky recipient Colm Currivan took to Twitter to share the beans with a twist, writing:

'Chuaigh mise agus m'iníon chuig caifé don lón. D'ordaigh mé 'beans and toast'. Sílim gur 'beans IN toast' a chualathas. Tá sé...spéisiúil...'

'My daughter and I went to a cafe for lunch. I ordered ‘beans and toast’. I think 'beans IN toast' was what was heard. It's ... interesting ...'

And just like that, a new sandwich was born:
