They must have seen his career defining part in Paddington 2.

Saturday Night Live, or SNL, have just revealed their October line-up and there’s a very familiar Irish face with hosting duties. On the 1st October it’s Miles Teller (not Irish) (American star of Whiplash and Top Gun: Maverick) with musical guest Kendrick Lamar. Then on the 15th it’s Megan Thee Stallion, another American rapper, of classics such as “WAP” and “Savage”, who will be her own musical guest.

In between these very famous American Saturday Night Live hosts, is none other than Brendan Gleeson. Gleeson will take on hosting duties alongside Willow, daughter of Will and Jada Smith, as his musical guest.

Gleeson is best known for films such as In Bruges, Calvary, Paddington 2 (my personal fave), and the Harry Potter series.

This will be Gleeson’s first time hosting the comedy show, although he is not the first Irish person to do it. According to RTÉ News, other “Irish hosts of Saturday Night Live in previous seasons include Gabriel Byrne, Colin Farrell, Liam Neeson and Saoirse Ronan“.

Hosts of Saturday Night Live typically write their own monologues and sketches, and we have a feeling that Brendan Gleeson is going to nail it. If it’s anything like his comedic performance as Nuckels in Paddington 2, he’ll be grand.

And as for the silver screen, Gleeson will be back soon alongside Irish stars Colin Farrell and Barry Keoghan in Martin McDonagh’s The Banshees of Inisherin.
