The famous Hollywood singer and actress has given her support to a campaign involving the Irish youth organisation Spun Out.
An advocate for mental health, Demi Lovato has shown her support for national youth organisation Spun Out – getting behind their latest campaign.
Joining forces with the Royal Bank of Canada, Virgin Unite and Draper Richards Kaplan, Demi is helping to launch The Mental Health Fund which aims to raise money for mental health services around the world during Covid-19.
Hoping to ensure that young people have continued access to vital mental health supports in the coming weeks, the initiative will fundraise for three other mental health organisations including Kids Help Phone in Canada, Shout in the UK and Crisis Text Line in the US.
Set up only a mere 12 hours ago, a GoFundMe page for the project has already amassed almost $2million in donations (over €1.8million).
A statement from the singer, posted on the Spun Out website reads:
“So many people have been left alone with their thoughts, their abusers, their anxieties – and are struggling with the uncertainty of these times.
I know not everyone has the ability to get the help they need so my hope is that this fund can bring support to help alleviate some of the hardship and pain people are going through.”
With a global goal of €4.6million, the project aims to raise €350,000 for Irish services to ensure that Spun Out can continue providing 24/7 crisis support.
Speaking of the Mental Health Fund, CEO of Spun Out, Ian Power, had this to say:
“As the current crisis continues, days are filled with uncertainty and worry for some young people. SpunOut.ie is here 24/7 to help those in Ireland who might be struggling with any issue – no matter how big or small.”
According to their website, Spun Out has seen a 60 per cent increase in the number of young people reaching out to their text service since the start of the crisis – highlighting the impact of the global pandemic on young people’s mental wellbeing.
