Chris O’Dowd has described Gal Gadot’s infamous Imagine video as “creative diarrhoea”, adding that the public response to the cover was “justified”.

It seems like light years ago that we were waking up to that infamous Imagine cover. Organised by Wonder Woma star Gal Gadot, the video saw a host of different well-known celebrities join forces to recite the words of the John Lennon classic. Including Roscommon native Chris O’Dowd who seems to have serious #ragrets about being involved in the project.

A way of raising people’s spirits while in lockdown, the video was heavily ridiculed online with many saying that it was “tone deaf” and completely missed the mark. Speaking to Louis Theroux on the latest episode of his podcast Grounded, the Big Boyler gave his thoughts on the whole thing – saying that he felt the public response to the video was warranted.

“In terms of my interpretation of it, I think the backlash was justified.”

Asked to partake in the video by friend and former colleague Kristen Wiig (the duo starred alongside each other in Bridesmaids), O’Dowd admitted that he said yes without ever really giving it a second thought.”I’ll do anything Kristen asks me to do so, of course, we just did it. It took five minutes, didn’t think about it. I presumed it was for kids. We were in that first wave of creative diarrhoea that seemed to encase the entire world.”

Tell us how you really feel about it, Chris.
