Dermot Kennedy isn’t over this year’s Toy Show yet either

Dermot Kennedy

One of the standout moments from a very memorable show.

Reasons to love the Toy Show are endless but watching kids be surprised by their idols is always one of the highlights for me and thankfully, that’s one aspect of the show that this year’s edition still managed to preserve.

One of many talented performers to take to the stage on the night, aspiring singer Michael Moloney stepped up to the mic to sing a tune by his favourite artist Dermot Kennedy – with the man himself joining him onstage midway through.

Impressing viewers with his stellar vocals, Michael was having far too much fun to notice his hero appear on stage alongside him… initially mistaking the background vocals for that of a pre-recorded backing track.

Finally registering that it was actually Mr Kennedy himself, surprise at seeing his hero join him in a duet is written all over the teenager’s face and it’s just one of the many, many heartwarming moments that had us wiping our eyes on Friday night.

Since sharing a clip of his guest appearance with his social media followers, Dermot has been reflecting back on the success of this year’s show – saying that the show gave the whole country a boost and adding that he is “so glad” to have been able to contribute to the experience in some small way.

“It felt like The Late Late Toy Show @RTEOne gave our whole country a bit of a boost the other night, at the end of such a hard year. Those kids do such a good job of reminding us what’s truly important. It’s such a special event, and I’m so so glad I could play a small part in it.”

A standout moment for viewers across the country, it’s definitely one that Michael won’t forget in a hurry.
