The actress also gives the latest update on Derry Girls Season 3.

There is no denying the power of Derry Girls! Despite only containing twelve episodes over two seasons (so far), the show is one of the funniest and most-loved series ever set in Ireland, and fans have been waiting anxiously to see what the next season would bring.

As part of a Tourism NI showcase this week, there was a lot of talk about how Northern Ireland has become a hot spot for filming movies and TV shows, and as part of that conversation, Derry Girls star Jamie-Lee O’Donnell (who plays Michelle) chatted about the future of the show, as well as the potential movie.

When asked directly if she would be up for a movie, O’Donnell said:

“I would, I think if that was something that Lisa [McGee, creator of the show] was up for, then why not? I would be really interested to see where she would take us.”

And then when asked about the upcoming third season, there is obviously a lot of plot secrecy around it, but still managed to give a small update:

“There is talk of doing it at some point. I think just the way that everything is opening and closing and kind of all over the place. We are looking to do that because we’re dying to know. We’ve been told wee bits, but I don’t what to say and what not to say, so I just say nothing, because I’m terrible at keeping secrets. But there is stuff happening and it is going to be brilliant.”

While we wait, there is a new Netflix drama starring O’Donnell’s Derry Girls co-star Nicola Coughlan arriving on Christmas Day, and we can go back to the most recent hit of Derry Girls’ goodness, when Saoirse Ronan took part in a group zoom call with the stars:
