An England World Cup Star Has Named B*Witched As His Musical Guilty Pleasure

James Fenton

In the summer of 1998, Irish girl group B*Witched were catapulted towards international recognition upon the release their pop classic C’est La Vie. We were proud of punch here in Ireland as Edele, Keavy, Lindsay and Sinéad brought their trad-infused earworm to global audiences and there was one little lad over in Sheffield who had a particular grá for the ladies.

England full-back Kyle Walker has this week taken part in a lie detector test for Unscriptd in which a number of sordid details were revealed, most notably his propensity to relieve himself while in the team shower. But that’s a conversation for another day.

In the interview with Amelia Dimoldenberg, Walker also spilled that he was a fan of B*Witched back in the day before breaking into a rendition of the aforementioned tune. The host then quite rightly requests that he stops even though the 28-year-old mentions in another part of the interview that he fancies himself as a decent singer.

Here’s the video in full with the B*Witched conversation coming up around the 1:40 mark…

Decent memory on Walker seeing as he was only eight-years-old when C’est La Vie was released. We can just imagine the England dressing room before their opening game at the World Cup pumping out some motivational tunes with Walker in the corner humming “hey boy, sittin’ in your tree, mammy always wants you to come for tea…”

For the day that’s in it, here’s the timeless B*Witched classic for you to get stuck in your head for the rest of the day…
