Galway Film Fleadh announced to go ahead this July

Rory Cashin

It will be a hybrid of in-cinema and online events.

The 33rd Galway Film Fleadh has been announced to be taking place from the 20th to the 25th of July this year, giving a little more time for the government to make a decision about the impending opening of cinemas in Ireland.

The Fleadh’s Director of Programming, Will Fitzgerald, had the following to say:

“Moving this year’s edition to July 20th bought the festival time, amidst the ongoing uncertainty around capacity for summer events, and the question mark over the opening of cinemas, to plan for its intended hybrid event. The Fleadh plans to deliver Ireland’s first hybrid film event, after being the first Irish film festival to deliver an online edition last year.

Previous guests to the Galway Film Fleadh include Will Forte, Zachary Quinto, Marisa Tomei, and Andrew Scott.

Screenings at the Fleadh are usually earmarked for success, especially within the Irish film market, and particularly any release that may pick up any of the awards at the Fleadh itself.

The full schedule and line-up for the six day event will be announced closer to the time.
