Halloween is almost upon us and if you’re still looking for some fun, spooky plans that don’t involve panic-wearing a terrible costume or wishing you hadn’t bothered going out, then take a look at our run-down of the best events around the country over the next couple of weeks…
Take a spooky tour of the most haunted house in Ireland
The haunted Loftus Hall mansion in Wexford is definitely up there as one of the creepiest places in the country – it’s even gained the title of ‘the most haunted house in Ireland’, so visit at your own peril. Catch a Halloween classic at the Retro Drive-In
Retro Drive-in Movies will be coming to Ballybrit Racecourse in Galway with a whole host of Halloween classics. From Friday 19th to Sunday 21st They’ll be showing favourites including the Harry Potter films, Scream and The Exorcist and you can find more information and screening times here.
Test your nerve at Paranoia Haunted House
If you really love all things Halloween and you’re feeling really, really brave, then Paranoia in Wicklow might be for you. Now be warned, it’s set inside an actual abandoned asylum (have you learned nothing from watching American Horror Story?!) and it claims to be Ireland’s “most intense and terrifying Halloween scare house” so it’s definitely not for the faint-hearted.
Go pumpkin picking in Kildare
For something a bit more lighthearted, why not go pick out your own pumpkin to carve for Halloween? Lidl will be hosting fun-filled days out in Ladytown, Kildare, complete with a spooky farmhouse, scary storytelling, a pumpkin patch – and you can even join in carving classes to get yours looking suitable spooky.
Watch the Macnas Parade in Galway
The theatrical spectacular that is the Macnas Parade will be taking to the streets of Galway again this year. On Sunday 28th the ‘Out of the Wild Sky’ themed parade will start at the NUI Galway campus and weave its way down through the city to Claddagh Quay. It’s not one to be missed.
Visit Savour Kilkenny Festival of Food
Indulge your inner foodie at this fab food festival taking place over the bank holiday weekend. As well as wine tastings and quirky dining events, you can also stop by masterclasses and demos hosted by award-winning chefs including Kevin Thornton and JP McMahon, as well as Rosanna Davidson and The Happy Pear.
Take a trip to Ireland’s only dedicated Scream Park
Farmaphobia in Co. Meath is now in its 10 year and is terrifying its guests more than ever. They’ve got five different scare attractions throughout the farm (including their Field of Screams and the Zombie Morgue) as well as two new escape rooms if you’re feeling particularly brave.
