Fans of First Dates Ireland have been showing their love for Hughie Maughan after his appearance on First Dates Ireland last night.

Viewers will know Hughie for having a larger than life personality after his appearance on Big Brother. The TV star appeared on First Dates Ireland last night, explaining that he’s never actually been on a first date like this.

The date started off rocky and awkward, and it didn’t get any better. Hughie was paired up with Glasgow man Paul, who labelled Hughie as ‘too much’ when the Big Brother star went to the bathroom.

Upon return, Hughie said to Paul, “You need to start asking me some questions” to which Paul replied quite bluntly, “I don’t, really.”

Towards the end of their date, Hughie said, “It’s been really nice to meet you.”

To that, Paul didn’t respond, prompting Hughie to say, “Are you not going to reciprocate that? Are you going to be rude?”

To no viewer’s surprise, the two men opted to not see each other again.

Twitter has been rallying around Hughie since the episode aired. One viewer wrote, “Hughie showing us how it’s done while showing up his date on basic manners and humility.”

Hughie has been quite active on Twitter since the episode, writing, “He was my 1st ever proper date and I was heartbroken at the time and spoke about that on the date

“It wasn’t shown but he knew that and was horrible to me.”

In another tweet, he thanked viewers for the love, writing, “Thank you so much for the support tonight about #firstdatesireland.”
