The Icelandic Eurovision representatives caused controversy last night by unveiling Palestine flags during the competition’s voting segment last night.
Members of techno group Hatari drew gasps and boos from the Tel Aviv audience as the show’s hosts awkwardly attempted to continue announcing the results.

Iceland was the first Western European country to recognise the independence of Palestine. Dancers for veteran singer Madonna also displayed Palestine and Israel flags during her interval performance.

The competition was won by the Netherlands for the first time since 1975.
