‘I’m sorry about Síoda’ – Limerick youngster pens heartfelt letter to Michael D

Sarah Finnan

Much of the country has taken news of Síoda’s passing as a personal loss. One of two Bernese Mountain dogs owned by Michael D, she was one of the Áras’ most popular residents (along with Bród) and it’s safe to say that she’ll be greatly missed.

So loved was she that people have been flooding social media with photos of their own dogs since hearing the sad news. A lovely show of solidarity for the President in his time of need. Also wanting to check in on Miggedly and make sure he’s doing ok, one Limerick youngster has taken the time to pen a heartfelt letter to the Áras – complete with emotional cover letter and everything.

Be warned, this is a tearjerker so save until later if you’re still feeling a little sensitive at the news.

Shared to Twitter by Donnchadh’s dad, the letter reads:

‘To President Michael D Higgins.

I am sorry to hear about Síoda. She was a good girl. I hope you and Bród are okay. I was sad when my cat died so I know that you are too. Thanks for being a great president.’

Tears. So many tears. I wouldn’t be opposed to a national day of mourning, to be honest. I think we could all use some time to grieve.
