Irish indie film to be made into a comedy series by Maya Rudolph and Natasha Lyonne

Fiona Frawley

Very exciting news.

If you didn’t see Irish comedy/horror film Extra Ordinary when it came out back in 2019, first of all now is the perfect time to give it a watch. With spooky season upon us, it’s the ideal film to curl up to for anyone who wants to get into the Halloween spirit, but can’t deal with the trauma of a full on horror movie. It’s the perfect balance of creepy and gas, with Maeve Higgins’s dry, inimitable wit guiding us through the bizarre world of driving lessons and Satanic pacts.

Second of all, huge news. Blinder Films, the production company behind Extra Ordinary confirmed today that comedy legends Maya Rudolph (SNL, Bridesmaids) and Natasha Lyonne (Russian Doll, every teen movie ever) will be adapting the horror feature for tv! Writer and star of Extra Ordinary Maeve Higgins has been killing the comedy game stateside for the guts of a decade so it was only a matter of time before something huge like this happened, but still, what a buzz.

According to Deadline the film will be adapted as a 30 minute comedy series for TBS, with the project being put into development by Animal Pictures (production company run by Rudolph, Lyonne and Danielle Renfrew Behrens). Also on the production team will be Katie Holly & Yvonne Donohoe of Blinder Films, the team behind the original film.

Have a gawk at the trailer for Extra Ordinary below, and if you fancy it for your scary movie of the week you can rent it on Youtube for €2.99. Can’t argue with those prices, gals.
