Football has thrown up plenty of amazing comebacks over the years. Think Manchester United overturning a 1-0 deficit to win 2-1 in the dying seconds of the 1999 Champions League Final against Bayern Munich. Or Liverpool rising from the ashes in 2005 after being 3-0 down against AC Milan at half-time.
Both fine examples and now James McClean can add his name to the list of terrific comebacks in the sport. The Ireland winger was the victim of a little dig by teammate David Meyler online yesterday when Meyler posted a photo of James laughing away to himself at training.
In the snap, Meyler, Jeff Hendrick and Harry Arter appear to be ignoring McClean’s attempts at getting a gag going and the Corkman added the caption ‘this photo sums up James McClean’s banter in a nut shell.’

Poor Jimmy. The Derry native was well able for it though as his response on Instagram not only confirmed that he does indeed have plenty of craic in his locker, he also completely destroyed his three teammates’ football ability by hitting back with ‘When your centre mids are asked to play a forward pass and their reactions are ????????’
Hitting them where it hurts. But, come on James, the last thing we need is the confidence of our central midfielders taking a hit before tonight’s crucial UEFA Nations League game against Denmark.
Of course, the exchange was all in good fun and we don’t need McClean to tell us that he’s a thoroughly decent bloke, as this heartwarming story will testify.
