CNN’s busiest man takes time out to reply to Derry Girls creator about his Irish heritage

It’s a very busy week in the United States and CNN’s John King has been one of the busiest of all, keeping viewers across the world up to date with the race for the White House.

John King has become somewhat of a Twitter darling over the past few days, seemingly getting about forty winks of sleep in between mammoth shifts as anchor of CNN’s Election coverage. Here in Ireland, we love a connection to famous faces across the pond and many had been wondering if King had any Irish roots.

Seeing that nobody else was asking, Derry Girls creator Lisa McGee popped up with the question ‘is John King Irish yet?’ and sure enough, the CNN man responded with one simple word – ‘Always’.

The reply sent Irish Twitter into overdrive, with memes and gifs galore and multiple accounts calling him a ‘legend’ and ‘one of our own’. If you were wondering, John was born in Boston in 1961 and is indeed of Irish descent.
