What an incredible achievement for the Irish swimmer.

At only 19 years old swimmer Nicole Turner, from Portarlington County Laois, achieved a silver medal today in the S6 50M Butterfly. According to The 42 she finished with a time of 36.30, a personal best for the athlete. Turner was beaten by China’s Yuyan Jiang who won with a time of 34.69.

Turner told RTÉ News how thrilled she was to come second following the 2016 Games in Rio where she came fifth.

“Looking back on Rio, being so close to that bronze medal, the aim was to get on the podium in Tokyo.”

“I never in a million years thought it would be silver. I always thought it would be a fight for bronze.”

With Turner’s victory, this is Ireland’s fourth medal of the 2020 games.
