Winter Love Island will come to a close this evening.

The first series of the winter edition of Love Island draws to a close today, with the finale set to air on Virgin Media at 9pm this evening.

Things got underway six weeks ago back in January when 12 new islanders entered the South African villa and viewers have been kept on their toes ever since.

Last year’s summer series saw the Irish contingent well represented, with one half of the winning couple, Greg O’Shea, even hailing from Limerick. Considered something of an upset, the result came as a shock to some of the more well-established couples who had spent more time together.

With no chance of an Irish win this year, favourites for the crown include Paige and Finn and Luke T and Siannise. As is the tradition, the islander who picks the envelope with the £50,000 prize money can choose to share or split the winnings.

Host Laura Whitmore will greet the contestants later to announce the series winner and both she and boyfriend Iain Stirling have posted messages to social media ahead of the final.

Taking to Instagram, the Whitmore shared a photo of herself posing with Clint Africa, her driver while over in South Africa.

Iain Stirling also had his say, tweeting:

“Big day today. It’s the final of @LoveIsland. I hope you all tune in. The contestants have been amazing this year. So a huge well done to all of them, the team that make the show what it is and of course @thewhitmore for being more incredible than I could have ever imagined. X”

Tune in from 9pm to see which couple will take home the gold.  Who are you rooting for?
