Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone may have lost to Conor McGregor last night but there’s one person who will always be by his side.

After falling to the Dublin fighter within 40 seconds, Cerrone was being interviewed in the octagon before he was met by the familiar embrace of his loving grandmother, Jerry. In case you missed it, the sweet moment can be viewed below…

As a youngster, Cerrone moved in with his grandparents following his parents’ divorce and the pride he and his grandmother have in each other was clear for all to see. Donald wasn’t the only one who Jerry made an impression on either, as she made time to congratulate McGregor as well…

The gesture was not lost on Conor and he paid tribute to the “phenomenal woman” in a press conference afterwards, adding “what a lady and what a man she raised.” The short clip can be viewed below…

It seems respect is alive and well in the UFC. According to Sports Illustrated, Donald Cerrone was taken in by his grandparents just after he entered high school. He was prone to behavioural problems with Jerry saying “he was better with us but he was still a handful.”

Even though her grandson came off worse last night, he seems to have done his family proud.
