WATCH: The Trailer For This New Heath Ledger Documentary Looks Heartbreaking

James Fenton

It’s hard to believe it’s been over nine years since the world learned of Heath Ledger’s untimely death.

The heartbreaking news broke on January 22 2008, mere months before the release of The Dark Knight, a movie which many believed featured the Australian actor’s most incredible on-screen performance as The Joker.

A trailer has now been released for I Am Heath Ledger, a documentary which uses interviews with friends, family and acting colleagues to provide viewers with a unique perspective on the much-loved star.

Much of the footage was shot by Ledger himself and the trailer paints a picture of a young man who was absolutely in love with life before he died at the tragically young age of 28.

Model Christina Cauchi says that with Heath “there was always a camera around” while speaking of Ledger’s groundbreaking role in Brokeback Mountain, actor Ben Mendelsohn says:

“Before Brokeback Mountain came out, it would have been unthinkable to have a romantic tragedy involving two gay cowboys.

“This is one of the biggest heartthrobs on Earth taking on that character.

“That’s an artist.”

I Am Heath Ledger will premiere at the Tribeca film festival in New York on April 23 before a wider release in May.
