Corkonians asked to vote for Rebel County’s favourite song

What are the odds that The Langer Song comes out on top in the search for Cork’s favourite song?

A contest has been launched by Cork City Libraries to find the favourite song connected to the Rebel County.

To celebrate the musical resource of the libraries, Corkonians are being asked to vote for their favourite song with links to the county.

To be considered, the song has to be about Cork, be written by a singer/songwriter from Cork or be written by a singer/songwriter based in Cork.

The voting process is already open and you can register your nomination via the online form here, where you will be asked to give your reason for selecting your choice as your favourite Cork song.

The nomination process will close on December 20, when an independent jury will narrow the selected songs down to a shortlist of 10.

Corkonians will then be asked to vote for their favourite of the 10 shortlisted songs.

The winning song will be revealed at a performance of the top 10 songs in The City Library in early 2020.

Commenting on the contest, Senior Executive Librarian Patricia Looney said: “The objective is to encourage people to ponder, look back, reminisce… unearth stories and tales that contribute to the Cork of today. We want to hear of the tunes, songs and jingles that have moulded our character & define our individuality.”
