Former Fair City actor Ryan O’Shaughnessy has been chosen to represent Ireland at the Eurovision song contest later this year.

The Skerries native, who played Mark Halpin on the soap for almost a decade, has also appeared on The Voice Of Ireland and Britain’s Got Talent, where he reached the semi-finals.

He will perform a song called Together, which he co-wrote with Mark Caplice and Laura Elizabeth Hughes, at the Eurovision in Lisbon this May.

Over 300 songs were submitted to represent Ireland, with the winning entry being chosen by a panel of music industry experts.

“To be asked to perform for my country is an absolute honour,” said Ryan.

“I plan on doing Ireland proud by bringing a song and performance to Eurovision that we haven’t seen since the days of Rock and Roll Kids.”
