Putting a call out on social media, Limerick County Council has asked the public for their “weird, wacky and wonderful” name suggestions.
The proud owners of five new vehicles – including two dedicated road gritters and three pothole repairing velocity patchers – Limerick County Council took to Twitter to ask people for their help in naming the new additions.
A little low on suggestions themselves, they appealed to the public to put forward their best ideas. Raising the stakes that little bit higher, the team confirmed that there will even be a prize for the winning suggestion – with a €100 voucher to the Limerick restaurant of your choice up for grabs as an incentive.
Help us name our new road gritters & pothole repairing velocity patchers!
Submit your weird, wacky, and wonderful suggestions through https://t.co/X88qCMftfY or comment here (1 entry per person) to win a €100 voucher for the Limerick restaurant of your choice #ReadySpreadyGo!

Giving a bit of context to the idea, a post shared by Limerick Co Council explains:
“Day and night throughout the year, but particularly in the winter months, these vehicles and council workers ensure that the roads across Limerick are kept safe and open for traffic. And the local authority is now keen to send their drivers to work in vehicles with names that put a smile on their faces.”
So far suggestions have ranged from ‘Salter White’ to ‘Gritney Spears’ and ‘Rocky Saltoa’.
‘Gritty Gritty Bang Bang’ wins it for me so far, but there’s still time to top it so get those thinking caps on.
